Connaught - Golf

Connaught, the region making up northwestern Ireland, can be a golfer's paradise, if you are prepared for changeable weather, strong winds and challenging courses. The older Irish courses are legend, and new ones are springing up all the time. There is golfing accommodation available to suit all tastes, from traditional country houses to bungalows and apartments. Most of the accommodation available comes with modern luxuries such as a housekeeper (for an additional fee) or close to restaurants and amenities.

Connaught, the western region, is full of parkland and links courses with superb facilities and breathtaking scenery. Galway Bay Golf Resort, for example, is in one of the most beautiful areas of Ireland. The course encompasses many water hazards and its stunning setting (Galway Bay makes up three sides of the course) means any game here is guaranteed to be challenging.

Mulranny Golf Club is a nine-hole gem, 30km northwest of Castle bar in County Mayo. It's a natural links course beside Mulranny Beach and is very popular with visitors.

County Sligo's courses are among the country's finest and offer a challenge to even the most experienced golfers. Magnificent links courses on the coast showcase along the spectacular beaches. Visitors are welcome.

Enniscrone Golf Club is one of Ireland's finest links courses. In Killala Bay, it is a championship course with superb greens year-round and breathtaking views.

Roscommon Golf Club was founded in 1904 and is set in parklands covered in sycamore, beech, whitethorn trees and ash trees. The course, designed by Eddie Connaught, is an 18-hole championship course with the ninth and 13th holes its feature water holes. A challenge for experienced golfers.

Put simply, Connaught is truly second-to-none as a golfing destination.
